The gamelan angklung is a 4-tone bronze-keyed metallophone ensemble used in Bali for ritual ceremonies conducted during cremations, tooth filing ceremonies, and other temple rituals. This app highlights the gangsa pemade - one of the members of the gangsa family - which plays the main melody and kotekan, or, interlocking parts.

The bright, percussive sounds of the Indonesian gamelan orchestras reverberate throughout Southeast Asia, especially on the island of Java and Bali. The Indonesian word gamelan literally means "to hammer together" or "ensemble", and describes a family of instruments unified by a common tuning and purpose. The word refers to close to one hundred distinct percussion-dominated orchestras in Indonesia - 25 of which can be found on the island of Bali.
